On 17 October at the University of Oporto, the canning companies of the Euroregion Galicia-North Portugal were mentioned at the opening ceremony of CONSERVAL, a European project for the “valorisation of by-products and waste water from the canning industry in the POCTEP area”.
The project will concentrate, during 3 years, in the modernization of the sector by means of a model of sustainable management of the generated by-products, preserving the marine space and transforming waste into resources.
A project with a sustainable perspective
CONSERVAL welcomes the Circular Economy model as a guideline for improving the competitiveness of companies. It is proposed to achieve a valorization of resources and a reduction of environmental impact preserving marine spaces thanks to the independence of exhaustible resources, fossils and non-biodegradable waste. A project with social and integrative responsibility, with the potential to generate value-added products.
In addition to ANFACO-CECOPESCA, the participating entities include CETAQUA Galicia, University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), Fundación Empresa-Universidad Gallega (FEUGA), University of Porto and the Association of Fish Canning Manufacturers of Portugal (ANICP).
