This is the forth consecutive year the sector has increased its numbers: production and employment.
In 2016, the Spanish canning industry produced 348.436 tons and 1.520 million euros, which means respectively a growth of 2.516 and 17 million comparing with 2015. And the 87% of production is concentrated in Galicia.
Employment is also growing: last year 11.630 people were working in the sector, an increment of 5% over 2015.
But that is not all. The increase in exports is also remarkable, as a sign of the good health of the canning sector: “We are reaching 117 different countries”, said Vieites (from ANFACO-CECOPESCA) “Research and innovation were and will be our bet. Innovation is the key to get a more and more safe and competitive production chain”.
